WELCOME TO BEAUTIFUL ANGOLA, INDIANA

Welcome to the City of Angola, Indiana-the gateway to the northeast corner of Indiana. We have become a destination community for visitors, businesses and industries due to our 101 lakes, Pokagon State Park, Trine University, Cameron Memorial Community Hospital as well as our nationally recognized K-12 Steuben County Metropolitan School district and our hardworking, educated workforce.

Angola is a unique community in northeast Indiana. We are known for our recreational opportunities with our bike and walking trails. We have over six miles of trails that go through our parks, to our schools, to our YMCA, to our retail area north of town and eventually into Pokagon State Park.

We are also blessed with many antique stores and unique specialty shops along with many of the nationally known big box stores that you would not expect to see in a community our size. For those that are drinking connoisseurs, Angola and Steuben County are the home of Chapman's Brewing Company, Satek Winery and Briali Winery. Before you come visit us, please take a guided tour and view the "Today in America" video narrated by former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw that focuses on the City of Angola.

This year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of our historic Soldier's Monument. We have revitalized our monument with new curbing, grass, lighting, flowers, trees, plants, sprinkling system and railing. The Soldier's Monument was erected in 1917 to honor our county's Civil War Veterans but has become a symbol representing all of our veterans.

In 2016, Angola ended up as a semi finalist in the America's Best Communities. We partnered with our neighboring Town of Fremont to earn this designation. We ended up in the top 15 communities in this nationwide contest. We also partnered with the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership to win one of the State of Indiana's Regional Cities designations worth $42,000,000.00 to the region to help with economic development projects in our area. Because of this designation we were able to partner with Trine University and receive $2,800,000.00 toward 2 projects on Trine's Angola campus. The first project is the Steel Dynamics indoor skating arena. In the fall of 2017 Trine University will begin supporting ice hockey as a sport. There will be 2 different men's teams and a women's team playing in this arena. The second project will be the MTI Multipurpose basketball arena which will be located close to Hershey Hall. Both of these arenas will bring thousands of people from all over the Midwest to watch hockey and basketball in our city. Plus, Trine University is working out scheduling with our Park Department and YMCA for open skating for local citizens as well as talking to different groups about youth hockey leagues being able to use the hockey facility. Trine University is the fastest growing private university in the State of Indiana and they are not looking like they will be slowing down soon on their growth. Their highly acclaimed Schools of Business and Engineering along with new programs being offered in the health fields and new graduate programs being offered are making Trine University one of the premier university's in the Midwest.

The City of Angola received a "Cross Roads" grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation for $1,000,000.00 that will allow us to start developing the southeast corner of 1-69 and US Hwy 20 this year. We will be constructing a road into this area along with extending sewer, water and fiber optics into this development. We expect this to become a "Shovel Ready" park as well as a development area for hotels. Both are desperately needed in our community and will be great assets for the city's future growth.

Great things are happening in our community to help our workforce be better trained for 21st century jobs. The Angola Training Center on West Mill Street is busy with training in electrical, industrial maintenance and robotics. These programs have been well received and greatly appreciated by our industrial community. These programs are being administered by the Freedom Academy. The Enterprise Center on South Wayne Street in Angola is making great strides towards its development. The Enterprise Center will also have many opportunities available in their new buildings. First of all the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation has their offices located in this building. There will also be different opportunities for training in this facility. Welding and CNC equipment have been purchased for this building so that those interested in opportunities in these areas can get training. Workforce One will also be working out of this building helping those that are unemployed to get the training they need plus the opportunity to learn how to fill out applications for jobs that are in our area. Entrepreneurs will be able to rent space at a small charge to enable them to develop their ideas into realities. We are hoping that businesses coming out of the Innovations Center at Trine University will be able to use this space to further develop their ideas and products into businesses.

We are a community that can cover just about anyone's interest. We are one day's drive from 80% of the population in the United States. We have recreation for spring, summer, fall or winter. We have a great education system. We are fortunate to have the fastest growing private university in the state. Our new hospital and health system can take care of your health needs. We are a growing community. We have a wonderful park system and YMCA. We are fortunate to have a top notch library in our city. We have fiber optics connection to all of our county and the world. We have a great workforce.

If you are looking to retire on a beautiful lake, or you want a great place to vacation, maybe looking for the right place to raise a family, get a job or start a business, Angola, Indiana is the place you want to be. That's why our community is known for "Proudly working together to make visions a reality''. So call us, email or better yet visit us. We want to help make your visions a reality also.

Sincerely,

Richard M. Hickman
