The City of Angola's first Commercial Downtown Historic District is now in place. The Historic Preservation Commission was formed in December of 2006 to: 

• Preserve historic structures, architecture, streetscapes and neighborhoods.
• Promote the adaptive reuse of the surrounding environment through planning, preservation and education.
• To recognize preservation efforts to encourage community support in ongoing historic preservation endeavors.

Therefore, an application for a Certification of Appropriateness may be required for work to be done on buildings located in the downtown district.
